Wednesday Mar 02, 2022
Wednesday Mar 02, 2022
Naama Blonder has a bold vision to change what good development can and should look like. With that in mind, she co founded Smart density in 2017. Her professional work spans across planning and architecture. And by marrying the two disciplines, she brings a deeper and more realistic understanding of how municipal policies take physical.
She's also the subject matter expert for the city of Toronto expanding housing options in our neighborhoods committee, a board member of Cahuilla an affordable housing provider. She also coauthored the housing affordability report of the Ontario association of architects and served at the design review panel for the city of Burlington, where she provided urban design advice for development applications.
Last, but not least, she practices what she preaches and lives with her husband and child in a multifamily building in a transit accessible area of Toronto near the local park.

Tuesday Oct 05, 2021
Andy is the principal and founder of Thomson Architecture, Inc. A graduate of UBC's School of Architecture in 2003, Andy's 24 yrs of experience in Germany, the US and Canada in the field of green design & construction combined with his love of the outdoors, informs the work we do today. When Andy isn't glued to the computer, he can be found windsurfing, cycling, or riding electric skateboards. Andy speaks English, German and French.
Andy and I talked about hid interest in using mid-century modern designs that we issued by the CMHC between the 40's and the 70's as part of their "pattern books" comprising set of designs that homeowners could purchase for a nominal sum and then build. His goal is to adapt these plans to the 21st century in order to promote a higher degree of sustainability in residential architecture while advocating for a return to simpler, smaller dwellings that do less with more.
Check it out to learn more about his endeavour and his philosophy of design.
